Experience practical wildlife tracking and wilderness skills in the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Daily walking safaris and hands‑on spoor interpretation build your ability to read tracks, understand animal behaviour, and navigate diverse habitats with confidence. Guided by experienced instructors, the program blends focused fieldwork with essential bushcraft and ecological insight, supported by comfortable Meru‑style tented accommodation and all meals provided in camp.

Trip itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Maun and travel by road to Kwapa Training Camp, located in the private NG30 concession of the Okavango Delta. Once in camp, settle into your Meru‑style tent, meet your instructors and group, and receive a safety briefing and course overview. The rest of the afternoon is for settling in and getting ready for the week ahead. (LD)

Accommodation: 6 nights – Kwapa Training Camp

Kwapa Training Camp is made up of traditional Meru‑style tents that offer simple but comfortable accommodation in a natural wilderness setting. Each tent has an en‑suite bucket shower, flush toilet, bedding, towels, and a small verandah for relaxing. The camp is set within the NG30 Kwapa concession, an area of floodplains, channels, woodlands, and savannah with excellent wildlife viewing.

Day 2

Start your training with the basics of track and sign: how to identify tracks, understand different ground types, read simple gait patterns, and stay aware of your surroundings. Learn how alarm calls, feeding signs, and trails can help you understand animal movements. The afternoon continues with relaxed, practical fieldwork, followed by an informal campfire debrief in the evening.

Please note: Daily activities may change based on wildlife movements, weather, and instructor guidance. (BLD)

Day 3

Build on your tracking skills by learning to age tracks, read pressure releases, and recognise gait patterns on different surfaces. Continue practising awareness and safe movement on foot. In the afternoon, walk out to a simple fly‑camp in the concession to spend more time in the field. A supply vehicle may assist with logistics, while you carry only your personal day gear. (BLD)

Day 4

Spend the morning walking through floodplains and woodlands, focusing on safe approaches, good viewing angles, and choosing routes in big‑game areas. Afternoon walks reinforce wildlife awareness, behaviour interpretation, and accurate tracking. Activities remain flexible and follow the movement of wildlife. (BLD)

Day 5

Take a longer walk linking plains, islands, and woodland areas. Training may include basic bushcraft, low‑impact travel, and simple navigation skills using natural signs. When water levels allow, a short mokoro ride may be included; otherwise, the day continues fully on foot with vehicle support if needed. (BLD)

Day 6

Spend your final morning on foot practising key skills: track interpretation, gait reading, route planning, and calm wildlife encounters. Afterward, break fly‑camp and return to the main tented camp by foot, mokoro, or vehicle, depending on conditions. The afternoon is for showers, packing, and a final feedback session with your instructors. (BLD)

Day 7

After breakfast, leave Kwapa Training Camp and travel back to Maun by road for your onward journey. Departure times are planned around typical flight schedules, with some seasonal variation. (B)
