Trip itinerary
An early morning briefing at your Arusha hotel kick starts your safari, before you head off away from the main safari route of the northern circuit, to Tarangire National Park, a true wildlife gem known primarily for its vast elephant population and impressive baobab trees. (Driving time approx - 2 hours) (LD)
Accommodation: 1 night Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge.
Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge is located on the very edge of Tarangire National Park overlooking a floodplain that is a rich seasonal feeding ground for elephants and other game. A short 15 minute drive and you’re in the park. It’s a relatively simple but comfortable camp, with guest accommodation in ten 10 permanent tented cottages – each well decorated and offering private verandahs. Relax around the campfire before dinner – which regularly receives excellent reviews!
There is plenty to keep guests busy aside from day and night game drives, including Maasai guided ethno botanical walks, mountain biking, and an evening of shared stories, dance and song with local Maasai.
Morning game drive in Tarangire. Head past the highlands of Karatu, stopping on the way to view Manyara and the escarpment below. Continue to the unique Ngorongoro area and the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, the largest and most perfect volcanic crater on Earth. (BD)
Accommodation: 1 night Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge.
Known as ‘the eighth wonder of the world' the Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa's best-known wildlife arenas. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it offers a unique biosphere, which has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time. Deep within the Crater, enclosed by towering walls, an abundance of wildlife wanders the plains, lakes and forests of ‘the land that time forgot’. This unique lodge clings to the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, one of the largest and most perfect volcanic crater’s on earth. The lodge, with 75 rock built rooms with panoramic views, is built from local river stone and camouflaged with indigenous vines. Designed to blend completely into the landscape, it is entirely invisible from the floor of the Crater 600 metres below.
An early start today, but one you are sure you’ve been itching to tick off your African travel bucket list. (BLD)
Enjoy a full morning and picnic lunch in the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the natural wonders of the world. The volcanic caldera of Ngorongoro offers spectacular game viewing in the crater. We can almost guarantee you four of the Big Five will show up, as well as a rich variety of birds, all viewed against the backdrop of the thickly forested crater walls. Varied terrains and dramatic landscapes consisting of forest, grasslands and both freshwater and soda lakes make the Ngorongoro Crater a true marvel of creation. Your picnic lunch on the crater floor will forever remain a unique memory.
Continue onto the Serengeti, home to more than three million large mammals spread over vast endless plains. It is here that we may encounter the fascinating spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration, where one and quarter million wildebeest trek in columns of up to forty kilometres long in search of grazing, drawing with them plenty predators and numerous other species of game.
From January to March the herds can largely be found birthing their young in the southern area around Ndutu, before proceeding north through the centre and Western Corridor during June and July, eventually splitting to the west and north as they continue their way toward the Mara River. August to October sees dramatic river crossings which can only be considered Africa’s “greatest leap of faith”, before the herds return south in November to repeat this amazing instinctive procession all over again.

What our customers say
From start to finish our trip was incredible. We are a family of 7 who travelled from Sydney to Johannesburg, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and a stop over in Dubai on the way home. Julie from Bench Africa arranged everything, from flights, meet and greet, transfers and accomodation and every single detail was covered and ran like clock work. All up we had 12 flights, some to very remote airstrips and without fail, there was always a smiling face at the other end to meet us and transfer us to the next destination. In Zambia we were lucky enough to stay at Baines River Camp, this place is simply amazing. From the accomodation, the food, the staff, and of course our guide Weston, everything was 5 star. Then onto to Tanzania, we stayed at Lemala Ngorongoro Camp and Sergengeti Wilderness Camp, both were beautiful with amazingly warm and friendly staff. Its hard to believe the facilities and food they provide in such remote settings but everything was so tasty and the tents were just perfect. Last but not least we spent 2 nights at Karen Blixen Camp in Kenya - these tents are luxurious and very well appointed. The restaurant served up a fabulous selection of meals and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was a little more commercialised than what we had experienced in the other locations, but we thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to families. Overall the entire trip was such an amazing experience for our whole family and I wouldn't change a thing. Thankyou Bench Africa, you are an incredible team and we look forward to booking with you again.
