On arrival at Kamembe Airport you will be met and transferred to One&Only Nyungwe House (this is a road transfer time of approximately one hour).
Accommodation: 3 nights One&Only Nyungwe House.
In Southwest Rwanda, just south of Lake Kivu on the Burundi border, One&Only Nyungwe House is set amongst the rich tea-plantations of Gisakura, on the edge of the iconic Nyungwe National Park. The park itself covers approximately 1020 km² of rainforest, bamboo, grassland, swamps and bogs, and is one of the last mountain rainforest habitats on the planet.
Alongside ancient rainforest, within the lush green expanse of a working tea plantation, One&Only Nyungwe House offers an exclusive window to Africa’s fascinating wildlife and culture. Curating immersive tailored experiences, from gastronomic picnics to wild chimpanzee tracking and indigenous open-air spa treatments, awe-inspiring, once-in-a-lifetime moments are sure to amaze you at every turn.
Day 2 - Nyungwe National Park
Dashing at high speed through the flora, hooting and clanging – it truly is an exhilarating experience to encounter chimpanzees playing, wild and free. Home to one of East Africa’s last intact chimpanzee populations, Nyungwe is an ideal place early morning to observe chimps in their natural habitat. Most active in the morning, an early rise is required for maximum viewing opportunity, and a beautifully prepared breakfast will be enjoyed ‘on the go’. So, allow the experienced, expert trackers to guide you on a deep forest trail, learning about these fascinating creatures and the enchanting forest they call home. This experience does involve off track hiking through terrain that is steep, slippery and muddy in some places. Solid hiking shoes and moderate levels of physical fitness are recommended. This is an optional activity at an additional expense. (BLD)
This afternoon you will have the opportunity to go on an optional canopy walk. Experience the rainforest from a dazzling new perspective – on the famous canopy walkway. The only walk of its kind in East Africa, this breathtaking construction hangs 60 metres above the forest floor between giant trees and towers, revealing a stunning view of the flora and fauna, both below and above. An iconic experience, not to be missed! This is an optional activity at an additional expense.
Day 3 - Nyungwe National Park
Embrace the home of East Africa’s most diverse primate population, as you track the Colobus monkeys through Nyungwe’s lush forest trails. Most active and visible in the early morning, an early rise is required for maximum viewing opportunity, and a beautifully prepared breakfast will be enjoyed ‘on the go’. Travel to the only location in Africa where you can encounter Colobus monkeys, and one of the few places on the planet where L’Hoests’s monkeys can be seen. So keep your eyes peeled and prepare to be surprised at every turn by the sights and sounds of our jungle filled with life. This is an optional activity at an additional expense. (BLD)
