Trip itinerary

Day 1

On arrival into Lusaka Airport you will be met and assisted through immigration and customs and through to the domestic terminal for check in onto Proflight for your scheduled flight to Mfuwe Airport, just outside South Luangwa National Park. The flight is one hour 10 minutes, and on arrival at Mfuwe Airport you will be met by a representative from Norman Carr Safaris, and will be transferred by road to your first Bushcamp. Transfer time will be between 2 – 3 hours, depending on which bushcamp you start your itinerary at, and game seen en route. (D)

Bordering the Luangwa River, the northern and southern Luangwa National Parks contain some of the most breathtaking and untouched wilderness in Africa. As a result of this and the parks’ successful anti-poaching campaigns, the area has developed into a world-renowned wildlife haven. The South Luangwa National Park is renowned for its walking safari, which allows visitors to view elephant, hippo and even lion close-up under the supervision of professional and knowledgeable armed guides.

Below is an outline of the bushcamps where you will possibly stay in South Luangwa. Order and number of nights may vary and will be communicated to you 2 weeks prior to travel.

Accommodation: 4 nights Bush Camp – advised which ones before departure.

Luwi Camp - is a seasonal bush camp nestled under huge mahogany trees on the banks of a permanent lagoon. It is situated deep in the heart of the National Park and is one of the only Luangwa safari camps to be positioned well away from the permanent waters and rich vegetation of the main river. Due to its remote location there are not many roads in the area so activities are centred on walking safaris. This fact makes Luwi Bush Camp one of the most enthralling camps in Zambia. The wildlife in the area is prolific and to track it each day on foot is a memory that will last a lifetime. Accommodation is in four huts that are made of grass and thatch with polished mud floors. Each room is designed differently utilising trees and natural vegetation wherever possible. The design of these rooms lends the camp a rustic appeal and provides a truly African bush experience.

Nsolo Bush Camp - is a luxury safari camp consisting of four individually designed chalets each on raised wooden decks with high thatched roofs and private verandahs. The rooms are very spacious with the stylish furnishings that one would expect from one of Zambia's luxury walking safari camps. The bathrooms have no roofs and are set under the shade of the trees above. At Nsolo you don't usually have to search hard for your African safari experience. The wildlife frequents a waterhole in the dry river-bed in front of the camp and often your most exciting game-viewing is from the comfort of your own deck or from the central chitenje that houses the bar and small camp library.

Kakuli Camp – is located on one of the original campsites in the central region of the South Luangwa National Park. Revel in its elevated position well above the flood lines on the banks of the Luangwa River, which lends itself to spectacular views, and Kakuli is one of the few bush camps open for Zambia’s green safari season. Activities are either on the river or on foot in the drier, sandy areas that surround camp. Kakuli Bush Camp has four simple, yet beautiful, traditional walk-in safari tents. Each tent has en-suite facilities constructed of thatch and reed and other natural materials. In each tent, you will find a basin, separate flush WC and large shower with hot and cold running water. The front of the tent can be completely opened up, offering stunning views of the river from the comfort of your bed or the verandah. This is the perfect spot to kick your shoes off and daydream, or doze in the shade. Calming, sandy walkways link the tents to the central camp area, also constructed of reed and thatch and set on a raised deck. Complete with a bar and lounge area, this is the ideal environment to kickback and watch the grazing lagoon as wildlife meander past.

Day 5

Today you will depart the South Luangwa National Park and fly to Lusaka Airport for your outgoing international flight and onward travels. (B)
