This authentic journey through Northern Tanzania moves through three distinct landscapes: the woodlands of Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Highlands, and the open plains of the Serengeti.

Tarangire is best known for its elephants, particularly in the dry season when large herds concentrate around the Silale Swamp and the Tarangire River. The woodland setting creates a different kind of game viewing, with predators moving through dense thickets, light filtering through the acacia, and birdlife far richer than anything found on the plains.

The Ngorongoro Highlands extend well beyond the Crater. Empakaai and Olmoti are high altitude crater landscapes set within working Maasai pastoral land that has shaped the ecosystem for generations. There is a depth and quiet here that the busier parts of the region do not reach. Three nights here create a natural break in the journey.

The Serengeti portion of this journey follows the Great Wildebeest Migration, with a mobile camp that keeps you in the heart of the action. In March, time is spent further south on the Ndutu plains, where the rains bring fresh grass and the calving season draws predators and constant activity.

By July, the camp moves north. The northern Serengeti, centred on Kogatende and Lamai, is some of the most open and dramatic terrain in East Africa. At this time of year, herds concentrate along rivers and permanent water, with strong predator sightings and occasional river crossings shaping the experience.

Woodland, highland, open plain. Each with its own character and an entirely distinct game viewing experience.

Trip itinerary

Day 1

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met and transferred by road to your Arusha accommodation. (B)

Accommodation: 1 night Arusha Coffee Lodge

Located within a verdant coffee plantation, Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge offers a sanctuary of calm and a welcome retreat after a long international journey or the excitement of safari. Thirty elegant wooden chalets, inspired by traditional plantation houses, are set among lush gardens and coffee trees. A tree-lined driveway guides you to the warm, inviting main area, where vibrant gardens, a spa, boutique shops, a swimming pool, and two exceptional dining venues—Bacchus Restaurant and the 3° South Café Bistro—await.

Day 2

This morning, you will be transferred from your lodge to Arusha Airport for a scheduled flight to Kuro Airstrip, Tarangire National Park’s southern gateway. Upon landing, your Asilia guide greets you for a scenic game-drive transfer through iconic baobab groves and elephant-rich plains en route to Oliver’s Camp. (BLD)

Accommodation: 3 nights Oliver’s Camp

Set in the remote southern reaches of Tarangire, Oliver’s Camp offers just ten beautifully appointed safari tents overlooking the game-rich Silale Swamps and Minyonyo Pools floodplain. Each en-suite tent blends bush elegance with natural materials—mahogany accents, warm leather furnishings, and expansive verandas with sweeping baobab-dotted views. A family tent and a honeymoon suite provide additional comfort for small groups or couples seeking privacy.

Day 3 - 4

Spend the next two days exploring Tarangire’s wild landscapes, from granite ridges and broad savannahs to river valleys alive with wildlife. Enjoy expertly guided 4x4 game drives in search of elephants, big cats, and the park’s iconic baobabs, and deepen your connection to the bush with an Asilia-guided walking safari. Each evening, unwind with sundowners as the sky glows with colour before returning to camp for a relaxed, lantern-lit dinner. (BLD)

Day 5

After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Kuro Airstrip for your scheduled flight to Lake Manyara Airstrip, Ngorongoro’s primary air access point. A scenic three-hour drive then carries you up through the Great Rift Valley escarpment and into the Crater Highlands. Your destination is The Highlands, Asilia’s striking dome-designed luxury camp perched high on the forested slopes of Olmoti Volcano, offering unmatched views and exclusivity. (BLD)

Accommodation: 3 nights The Highlands

The Highlands redefines the Ngorongoro experience with a blend of low-impact design and high-style comfort. Eight canvas-and-glass geodesic domes sit strategically on the slopes of Olmoti for maximum privacy and expansive views reaching toward the Serengeti. Inspired by traditional Maasai bomas, each suite offers warmth, intimacy, and contemporary elegance, complemented by a central lounge and fireplace where guests can unwind in comfort at day’s end.

Day 6 - 7

Two unforgettable days of exploring the wonders of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater—the world’s largest intact caldera and a haven for the Big Five, vibrant birdlife, and thriving plains game, enjoying a scenic picnic on the crater floor. Beyond the crater, discover the Crater Highlands with guided hikes along the rim of Olmoti Crater, a descent into Empakaai Crater to its flamingo-lined soda lake, or meaningful cultural encounters with the local Maasai. Return each afternoon to your serene highland retreat to relax and take in the sweeping mountain views. (BLD)

Day 8

This morning, transfer back to Lake Manyara Airstrip for your scheduled bush flight into the Serengeti. Depending on the season, you will land at Kogatende (June–Oct) for Mara River crossings or Ndutu (Dec–Mar) for the calving season. Arrive at Olakira Migration Camp, Asilia’s exceptional mobile camp that moves with the Great Migration to keep you close to the action. (BLD)

Accommodation: 3 nights Olakira Migration Camp

At Olakira Migration Camp, you’ll experience the Great Migration at its most intimate. Positioned in two spectacular locations across the Serengeti and Ndutu region, Olakira offers front-row access to both dramatic northern river crossings and the mass calving on the southern plains. Its innovative stargazing tents feature a meshed, 270-degree opening where your bed can be rolled beneath the night sky for a remarkable sleep-out experience.

Day 9 - 10

Experience two extraordinary days in the Serengeti as you follow the Great Migration across vast, wildlife-rich plains. Witness powerful river crossings in the north or the beginnings of new life during the southern calving season, each moment capturing the drama and beauty of this iconic ecosystem. Your expert guide leads you through big-cat territories and alongside endless shimmering herds, providing exceptional wildlife encounters throughout your stay. (BLD)

Day 11

A final breakfast surrounded by the sounds of the Serengeti before your transfer to the nearest airstrip for your departure flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and your onward arrangements. (B)
