From the impressive clifftop location of the Crowne Plaza in the Al Qurum Heights the hotel commands stunning views of the Gulf of Oman. The attractive cove below, now the hotel's private beach, is completely cut off from outside access at high tide and can be reached by steps leading down from the pool and garden area of the hotel.
Today enjoy a tour of Muscat, nestled between the Arabian Ocean and the Western Al Hajar Mountains, Muscat, Oman's capital, harmoniously blends ancient charm with modernity. As a vital trading port for centuries, Muscat has embraced significant development while retaining its cultural heritage.
Your tour begins with a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, an architectural masterpiece and one of the largest mosques in the region. Continue to Old Muscat to view Al Alam Palace, framed by historic Portuguese-era forts. In the afternoon, explore Muttrah Souq, one of the oldest marketplaces in Arabia, followed by a walk along the corniche overlooking the harbour. Return to the hotel by the late afternoon. (B)
After an early morning breakfast, you will depart Muscat by 4WD and travel inland towards the desert. Enter Wahiba Sands, a vast sea of rolling dunes inhabited by Bedouin communities. Enjoy dune driving en route to your desert camp.
As evening falls, watch the colours of the dunes change at sunset, followed by a traditional dinner and stargazing in the silence of the desert. (BD)
Accommodation: 1 night Thousand Nights Camp
Thousand Nights Camp is a premier, eco-friendly luxury desert camp located deep in Oman's Wahiba Sands, offering an authentic Bedouin-style experience with modern comforts like air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. It is renowned for its stunning and remote dune setting.
Wake up early to experience the desert at sunrise before departing the dunes. Travel north through Oman’s interior and ascend to Jabal Akhdar, the “Green Mountain,” known for its cooler climate and terraced agriculture. Arrive by the afternoon to enjoy the dramatic canyon views and fresh mountain air. (BD)
Accommodation: 2 nights The Suwgra
The Suwgra (also known as The Cliff Guest House) is a simple and authentic Omani guesthouse located high in the Jabal Akhdar near the semi-ruined five-hundred-year-old village of the same name. This remote and rustic stone-built property is over 500 years old and is accessed following a fifteen-minute walk from the car park that takes you along a narrow path into the wadi and then up the other side. Luggage is transferred by a pulley system across the valley.
You have a full day to explore Jabal Akhdar’s natural beauty and traditional mountain life. Visit stone villages such as Al Ayn or Wadi Bani Habib, walk along ancient falaj irrigation channels, and learn about seasonal rose and pomegranate cultivation. The afternoon is free to relax, enjoy the scenery, or take a short guided walk. (BD)
After breakfast you will descend from the mountains and drive to Nizwa, once the capital of Oman. Visit Nizwa Fort, with its massive circular tower offering panoramic views over the oasis, followed by time in the traditional souq, famous for silver jewellery, pottery and dates. (BL)
