Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Home to about half of the world’s population of the endangered mountain gorillas, this designated UNESCO World Heritage site is located in the southwestern corner of Uganda. Situated in hilly countryside, this area is one of the few large expanses of forest in East Africa where lowland and montane communities merge. The area also provides refuge to elephant, chimpanzee, monkeys and small antelope, as well as 23 bird species restricted to the Albertine Rift.
