If you're exploring some of Bench Africa's Africa travel packages and tours, you might be wondering what to expect once you've landed at your destination. While you're sure to be in for a truly memorable experience wherever you choose to go, a typical day on safari can vary greatly depending on whether you're in east or South Africa.
To give you a taster of what you can look forward to on your upcoming east African tour, we run through what a typical 24 hours could look like on safari.
Early rising
One of most iconic destinations for an adventure safari in east Africa is undoubtedly Kenya, with the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve home to a wide range of African wildlife.
In the Masai Mara, your first game drive of the day typically takes place against the dramatic backdrop of the early morning hours. You will usually rise early, often around 5.00 am or 5:30 am, sipping a cup of coffee or having a snack to get going. Even if you're not a early riser, your efforts will be rewarded with the chance to see the animals while they are more active. From your open game vehicle, keep an eye out for predators such as lions on the hunt, or finishing off their prey prior to the heat of the day really setting in. This is also a great time to get those African wildlife shots, so be sure to bring your camera!
Breakfast
Upon returning to the lodge after your first game drive, you'll tuck into breakfast before having a bit of time to relax around the property. In the comfort of the eco-friendly Karen Blixen Camp, you can sip a cool drink at the bar followed by a refreshing dip in the pool, or a relaxing massage - the choice is yours!
Meanwhile, guests over at the stunning Mara Plains Camp can take a load off in their open-plan suite, with the walls opening up to allow a surreal view of the natural landscape while you take a leisurely bath in the freestanding tub.
After lunch
Your next safari will likely take place after lunch, once some of the animals have started to stir from their midday naps. This is also a great chance for you to go in search of some of the fantastic wildlife in the area, with the help of your knowledgeable safari guides.
All-day outings
The schedule for game drives and outings can vary between locations. For some tours in Tanzania's expansive Serengeti National Park, you might head out after breakfast for an all-day safari to see as much of the area as possible.
On our Tanzania in Style tour, you'll enjoy a full day of game viewing before returning to Kirawira Serena Luxury Tented Camp, furnished in a vintage, Edwardian style with charming old-world touches such as chaise longues, and carved rocking chairs.
